Tuebingen Welcome at City Hall

The woman standing at right was Gladys Davis of Ann Arbor (a native of Husum, Germany) -- "Frau Davis", as she was known to students in her German language and literature classes at Ann Arbor High School, c.1960.

Frau Davis attached herself to the Tuebingen exchange program, even though she did not have an official role in the Sister Cities committee. I heard that, several years later, she turned up on her own in Tuebingen and announced herself as an official visitor from Sister City Ann Arbor, who expected to be wined and dined as such. Although surprised, officials there were forced to give her a big welcome. (I never did hear the Tuebingen reaction to this incident.)
