From One Seed. Melissa Berlin's second grade teacher "must have eaten nothing but avocados because one day she brought in a whole bunch of seeds to give to us kids in the class." Although her first attempt at seed-rooting was knocked over by a storm, her second, towering 9 1/2 feet beside her, is two years old. It's never been outside. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Berlin of 1012 E. University advises the project takes "lots of patience,"--beginning with a month or two to root. Suspend it, pointed side down, in water by means of two or three toothpicks. When roots appear on the bottom and a sprout cracks through the top, plant it in potting soil and water every two days.
