Criminal Arraignment In Hospital: John W. Etherton (left) 25, of Garden City, crippled for life four months ago when a police bullet severed his spine during an attempted holdup of a local motel, listens to Municipal Court Judge S. J. Elden (center) read the charge of attempted armed robbery. The special arraignment at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where he has been confined was held yesterday. City Police Detective Sgt. Calvin Hicks (right) who led the ambush which trapped Etherton and two companions, takes notes on the proceedings. The suspect demanded examination and that was set for May 3. He has requested a attorney.
