Funeral services for Christian Maulbetsch, 80 years old, 502 S. Ashley St., who was killed by a westbound Michigan Central mail-express train here yesterday afternoon, will be held at 10:30 Saturday morning at the Muehlig chapel with Rev. E. C. Stellhorn officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.
Mr. Maulbetsch apparently failed to see or hear the approaching train, despite the warning shouts of a witness, Christopher Schaefer of New York City, as he started to walk across the railroad tracks just north of Arnet Granite Works, 936 N. Main St., at 3 o'clock, police said.
Dr. Edwin C. Ganzhorn, coroner, who ruled the death accidental and decided no inquest was necessary, said he was told the victim's hearing was somewhat impaired.
Mr. Maulbetsch only recently had recovered from serious injuries received April 14 when he walked into the side of a moving automobile and was knocked to the pavement at Main and Huron Sts. In that accident he suffered a brain concussion and a skull fracture, and was a hospital patient for a month.
Mr. Maulbetsch was born Aug. 24, 1858, in Germany, and came to this county at the age of 22 years. He was a member of the Schwaben Verein. He is survived by two brothers, Charles in LeMoyne, O., and George in Germany; and several nephews and nieces.
