Is Held At Park
A crowd of 400 or 500 persons
was present at Island park baseball
diamond this afternoon to hear
speeches under the joint auspices
of Michigan Civil Rights Federation
and the Michigan Committee
for Academic Freedom in behalf
of nine University students who
were asked not to return to the
University this year.
fStaged as a protest to the University
action, the meeting was
to include talks by Rev. Owen A.
Knox, head of both sponsoring organizations,
R. F. Thomas, president
of the United Automobile
Workers union affiliated with CIO,
Hertbert Witt, president of the
American Student Union, and Rudolph
G. Tenerowicz, Michigan
congressman.
