Loss Reported Light At First St. Building

Firemen were called to a King-Seeley Corp. storage room on the fourth floor of a warehouse at 140 S. First St. at 11 o’clock this morning, where a small blaze damaged machinery and three boxes of dishes.

The flames broke out in paper packing in the boxes. Cause of the fire was not known by firemen, although they said it may have been started by a lighted cigaret.

A much more serious blaze occurred in the Montgomery Ward & Co. warehouse—on the same floor of the building—on May 24.

Damage to the building and materials was estimated at well over $100,000 in that fire.

Firemen could not estimate the damage caused by this morning’s fire. They said, however, that smoke and water damage would add to the fire loss.

The blaze was discovered by King-Seeley truck drivers who were loading their vehicles parked at a dock at the west side of the building, which is owned by Carroll O. Benz.
