Coeds’ Swimming Pool Nearly Ready
WEST VIEW OF NEW BUILDING: This is a west view of the $1,000,000 U-M Physical Education Building for Women. Located on Forest Ave., between N. University Ave. and Geddes Ave., the structure is the first building of an extensive project to expand facilities for physical education for women. The building was started in October, 1952, and will be ready for use within two weeks.
20 FEET DEEP AT END: The diving end of the new U-M pool for women is 20 feet deep. At the other end it is 3 1/2 feet deep. Six lanes are provided for racing. The building also provides locker space for about 500 persons. According to Dr. Margaret Bell, chairman of the Women's Physical Education Department, the pool will give some 5,000 women students opportunities for swimming and water safety instruction. Ten-foot diving board is at right.
NEW POOL FOR U-M WOMEN: A 75-by-44 foot swimming pool with seating facilities for about 500 spectators is provided in the University's newest building. Two diving boards are included, one 10-feet high and another near floor level. Colored lighting will be available for pool activities. Underwater lights have been installed in the openings along the side of the pool and there are light fixtures in the ceiling.
