Lifelong Resident Of Scio Succumbs
DEXTER - John Howard Morrison, 78, a lifelong resident of Scio township, died yesterday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor following a long illness. He lived at 7775 Fourth St. in Dexter.
He was born Sept. 6, 1880, in Ann Arbor, the son of James and Margaret Howard Morrison and attended the Dexter schools. In 1922 he married Bessie Colby in Ypsilanti township. She died in 1952.
Mr. Morrison was engaged in farming along the Ann Arbor-Dexter Rd. until 1937 but had lived in Dexter since 1922. Later he had been a custodian at the University of Michigan until his retirement at 70. In recent years he had been writing manuscripts of local history for the Michigan Historical Collections in Ann Arbor and the Michigan State Library in Lansing.
He was a member of the Washtenaw County Historical Society and St. Joseph Catholic Church of Dexter.
Surviving is a nephew, Richard H. Ryan of Dexter and several cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Sylvester Radziecki officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dexter.
Friends may call at the Keehn Funeral Home in Dexter. The rosary will be recited there at 8:30 p.m. today.
