Many Ann Arbor girls will be heading back to college next month pocketing tuition money earned through summer employment. In her work for the Ann Arbor-Washtenaw Council of Churches, 18-year-old Becky Piper, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Ralph B. Piper of Brockman Blvd., helps roll out the welcome mat for students participating in the council-sponsored "Youth for Understanding" program. Becky, left, who will begin her sophomore year at the University, welcomes Pirkko Paaermaa of Finland who will live with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cross of Emerald Ave. while attending school.

Judy Freeman, who will be a senior at the U-M this fall, has spent her summer working as a laboratory assistant for the nuclear chemical group in the Phoenix Memorial Laboratory. Besides taking counts from the 100-channel analyzer pictured, Judy does everything from washing glassware and keeping the "hot" lab clean to weighing monitor foils. She is the daughter of Prof. and Mrs. James W. Freeman of Hilldale Rd. Judy assists both students and researchers.

Eve Stevens, 18, finds that bicycling to her summer job at the Dog 'n' Suds Drive-In each day keeps her in tip-top form. She's an early riser this summer too - the daughter of Prof. and Mrs. A. K. Stevens of Olivia Ave. works from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day, finds that her job is a good way to meet people. This fall Eve will enter the College of Wooster in Wooster, O., to major in history. Winner of a partial scholarship to the college, Eve is looking forward to her freshman year, but sorry to see summer end.

Summer for Eugenia Leeds has meant working on a project for the American Medical Association being carried out by the U-M Bureau of Hospital Administration located in the School of Business Administration. The survey entails a study of medical records and watching for changing trends. Eugenia, 18, will be a sophomore at the U-M this fall and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Leeds of Michigan Ave.
