Pig Found Tied Up In City

Monday November 2, 1964

This little piggy went to market ... this little piggy stayed home ...

This little piggy may not have had roast beef, because he was crying at somebody’s back door.

The people living in the apartment house at 917 Packard heard him early this morning and called the Washtenaw County Humane Society.

William Parker, manager of the society's shelter, in responding found the 50 pound porker tied to a back door.

Apparently it was a prank.

Greek initials apparently standing for Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity were painted on the Hampshire’s side in white letters.

The fraternity purchased a pig last week for a party Saturday night, but the porker disappeared from the lawn at the fraternity house Sunday morning, a Sigma Alpha Mu spokesman said today.

The organization hopes to keep the pig as a mascot if this is allowed by city ordinance, he said.

Other than the paint job, the pig apparently was not hurt.

Parker took the animal to the shelter and said he will decide what disposition is to be made of it.
