Bowl Victories Will Be Reviewed

The three football players voted “most outstanding” in Michigan’s Rose Bowl victories in 1948, 1951 and 1965 will be among the speakers for the 18th annual gathering of the Ann Arbor Quarterback Club at Barton Hills Country Club on Tuesday.

Tailback Bob Chappuis who accounted for 279 yards gained in the 1948 rout of Southern California, Don Dufek who scored the two touchdowns in the 1951 decision over California and Mel Anthony who rambled for three TDs in the recent victory over Oregon State, will be introduced by their respective coaches—Fritz Crisler, Bennie Oosterbaan and Bump Elliott.

Chappuis is now a business executive in Ft. Wayne, Ind., Dufek is Michigan’s defensive backfield coach and Anthony has started work in Cincinnati.

The Quarterbacks also will hear from Basketball Coach Dave Strack, Wrestling Coach Cliff Keen and Gymnastics Coach Newt Loken, who along with Elliott, have coached teams which accounted for 11 Big Ten championships in the last five years.

Tickets for the outing, which will include an awarding of a new trophy to the senior athlete voted “most valuable” by undergraduate M men, are available from Howie Wikel, Jack Carver, Don Naylor and Bob Ufer.
