With the intentions of becoming Ann Arbor's finest restaurant, La Seine, a new restaurant offering classical French cuisine, opened this week.
Situated at 109 S. Main St. at the former location of the Sugar Bowl, La Seine's aim is for quality and leisurely dining in quiet surroundings.
Expected to be the main attraction is the fine food prepared by European-trained chefs. The main chef, who came from Quebec, is Antoine Reybeau, who also brought his staff of six, all of which have received intensive training in France and Quebec.
Restaurant Associates, Inc., which owns La Seine, have also obtained the services of French speaking waiters from Europe and Quebec to insure the finest service.
The decor of the restaurant, which includes a formal dining area, an intimate lounge and a less formal dining room, is distinctive. For example, in the cocktail lounge is a fireplace and wall paneling obtained from the Newberry estate in Grosse Pte.
Principals who make up Restaurant Associates, Inc., are Frank G. Handy, William J. Conlin, Dr. David Shipman, Dale Fosdick, Robert Jones, Harold Stark, Jr., Guido Colling, Gerald Meyer and John Mersereau.
