Will Compare
Two Killings

The Aim Arbor Police Depart-
ment planned to contact Battle
Creek officers today in an at-
tempt to discover if there are
any similarities between the
slaying of 14-year-old Nancy
Fleece and the June 30 murder
of Joan E. Schell, a student at
Eastern Michigan University.

Nancy, reported missing 12
days ago, was found by police
yesterday in an uninhabited area
southeast of Battle Creek. An
autopsy showed she died of stab
wounds.

Police Chief Walter Krasny
said there could be a possible
connection with recent murders
in Kalamazoo.

"We don't know what kind individuals we're dealing with,"
Krasny said, "or even if there
is some kook running loose com-
mitting all these crimes."

Thomas Shea, an assistant in
the Washtenaw County Prosecu-
tor's office, is checking all leads,
Krasny said.

Regarding the murder of Miss
Schell, Krasny said: "We have
very little to go on."

Thr F^-tcrn Michigan Univer-

sore was picked up
u.y .'.uinc^iie in a car in front of
McKenny Union after 11:30 p.m.,
''me 30. Her body, stabbed more

in a dozen times, was found
hvc days later in a construction
area on Glacier Way near Ear-
hart Rd.

Russell C. Dodge, 24,. of Yp.si
lanti, is being held in the Wash-
tenaw County Jail on charges of
attempting to extort money from
the parents of Nancy Fleece,
but authorities say they don't
believe he is connected with the
killing.

A Municipal Court examina
tion for Dodge was adjourned to
day until next Thursday.
