13 Arrested In fracas
iNow Free Of Charges

Thirteen persons arrested
Wednesday night during the S.
Lniversity fracas were released
yesterday and told that no war-
rants will be issued against
them "at this time."

All of the persons released
were taken into custody by
"'tber Oakland or Monroc

only sheriff's deputies. The
warrants w e re not issued
because of "insufficient evi-
dence" at this time, according
to Casper H. Kast, chief assist-
ant prosecutor.

Some of the persons released
appeared to be "victims of cir-
cumstances," and the involve-
ment of some is still under
investigation, according to the
prosecutor's office.

Among those released were
Dr. Edward C, Pierce, 1409
Eeechwood, who told authori-
ties he would have provided his
services if needed, and Robert
A: Galardi, a Navy man out of
the service only 12 hours.

Pierce, 39, is a former Demo-
cratic City Council member and
unsuccessful candidate for
mayor. He said today that he
was arrested when he "didn't
move fast enough."

Regina and Guy Cooper, 212
Koch, started a birthday cele-

after they were mistaken for
rioters.

William F. Swaney, 1117 W.
Washington, had been involved
in an auto accident and was
waiting for city police to make
a report on it when out-of-coun-
ty deputies arrested him.

Others arrested and later
released were James W. Flow-
er of 123 W. Washington;

Ronald Travis, of 404 S. Forest
Ave.; Scott S. MacKay of 903
Granger Ave.; William L. Ash,
no address given; Paul A. Mai-
sano of 535 Emerick, Ypsilanti;

Kenneth V. Dabish of 1510 Hill;

John R. Pittenger of 1107 Pros-
pect; and James M. Pau
V.. Madison.

The eight remaining persons

Bonds of $110 cash or $500
surety were set for four per-
sons charged with creating con-
tention," a misdemeanor. They
were Mark Gould, 19, of 705 S.
State; Paul Atkinson, 28, of 549
Long Shore; Ranee Teeple, 20,
of Dearborn; and Edward J.
Johnson, 22, of 610 S. Forest
Ave.

Others arrested on the con-
tention charge and their bonds
were Chris Foster, 20, of
Plymouth, $150 cash or $750
surety; Douglas Lasher, 20, of
1025 Packard, $150 or $1,000;

Anthony Machowski, 28, of 1325
S. University, $250 or $1,500
surety.
