Flowers will raise money for orchestra

The annual geranium sale to raise money for the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra starts on Wednesday (May 20).

Sponsored by the orchestra’s Women’s Association, formed in 1952 as a symphony support group, the sale will feature red, salmon and pink geraniums that will be available at Turner’s Lodi Florist, 4431 S. Wagner Rd., from Wednesday through Saturday.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Women’s Association members will be at Turner’s to assist buyers with selection and transportation of the plants.

In addition, geraniums will be available at the following sites on a one-day-only basis during the course of the sale:

-- 4320 Washtenaw (corner of Dalton), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday; phone 971-1342.

-- 1549 Marian (near 7th and Stadium), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday; phone 994-1231.

-- 614 Stratford Dr. (Hill and Geddes), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; phone 662-0433 or 662-8645.

The geranium sale is one of the Women’s Association’s major fund-raising events of the year. In addition to helping support the orchestra in its presentation of free concerts, proceeds help raise money to send young Ann Arbor instrumentalists to music camp.

This year, geraniums will cost $1.79 (plus tax) per plant or $20 (plus tax) per dozen.

To reserve plants in advance or obtain more information, call 662-0433.
