HALF A CENTURY - Alvin Neff, who has operated a newsstand in the Nickels Arcade for 50 years, was honored with a surprise panty and gifts from the State Street Area Association Wednesday. Neff, at left, and his wife ny received a gold watch from the Kevin Sheets, vice president of the merchants association. The veteran businessman also received other gifts and was made an honorary member of the State Street Area Association. Alvin's brother Floyd opened the newsstand 50 years ago, and Alvin has operated the business himself for the past 40 years.
