Southward, William Lester

Age 63, died Thursday, August 15, 1985 at the residence. He was born August 12, 1922 in Detroit the son of Clarence Allen and Margaret Mildred (Moran) Southward. He married Shirley Donna Lynch in November of 1946 in Angola, Indiana and she survives. He was a WWII Navy veteran of the South Pacific theater, serving on the air carrier the USS Wasp for four years. He came to Ypsilanti in 1954. He was employed by Yellow Freight Systems for whom he had a 35 safe driving record, retiring in November of 1984. He was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Survivors include: his wife at home; two sons, Timothy M. of Ypsilanti and Patrick D. (Monica) of Grosse Ile, MI; four grandchildren, Kaye and Alan of Ypsilanti, PJ and Scott of Grosse Isle, MI; one brother, Edward (Virginia) of Milan; five sisters, Mrs. Bud (Alice) Clymer of Ann Arbor, Mrs. William (Audrey) Kline of Taylor, Mrs. Stanton (Mary Lou) Bordine of Milan, Mrs. Frank (Joyce) Wroble of Ortonville, MI and Susan Southward of Dundee and one aunt, Mrs. Abe (Jean) Sloat of Lake George, MI. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Polly Ann and one brother, David. Cremation has taken place. Private graveside service will follow later in Marble Park Cemetery, Milan. Those desiring may make contribution to Michigan Cancer Fund. The family will receive friends 2-5 P.M. Sunday, August, 18, 1985 at the residence.
