Age 69, died November 11, 1990 at her home losing her courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 12, 1921 in Detroit, MI, to Frank and Melba (Cavill) Dowling. She received a Bachelors degree in 1944 from Wayne State University, then taught in Detroit School Library's. Gaining her Master's degree in Education from Wayne State in 1964 she taught in a South Redford School Library. From 1965 to 1970 taught library Science at Wayne State while completing coursework for a Doctorate in Teacher Education. From 1970 to 1972 she was Professor of Library Science at Eastern Michigan University, returning to Wayne State University Library Science until retirement in 1976. She was a past member of Pi Lambda Theta (Education Honor Society), Michigan Association of Media Specialists, and Women's National Book Association in which she was Vice President and Newsletter Editor of the Detroit chapter. On July 19, 1946 she had married James E. Taylor, of Detroit, MI, her loving husband of 44 years. After living in Detroit for four years, Redford Township for 26 years, they moved to Green Oak Township in 1976. She served on the Board of the Friends of the Ann Arbor Public Library for several years. Active in Green Oak Township Historical Society she edited and wrote "Yesteryears of Green Oak, 1830-1930". In 1977 she and her husband formed Green Oak Press to publish Michigan History Books. She is survived by her husband, her sister Lois (Mrs. Jack) Reiman, of Sears, MI; her children, Brian Keven (and wife Carol) Taylor, Kim Eric (and wife Toniann) Taylor; granddaughter Julie Marie Taylor; several nieces and nephews and a cousin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, from the KEEHN FUNERAL HOME, Brighton. Interment at Hamburg Cemetery, Livingston County. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne State University Library Science Program for Scholarships or Livingston Community Hospice, Howell, MI.
