Introduction to Insight Meditation with Still Mountain Meditation

This half-day workshop will offer a brief, step-by-step introduction to beginning insight meditation.

Insight meditation is a simple and direct practice of moment-to-moment investigation of mind/body processes through calm, focused attention. In meditation and mindfulness practices we cultivate our ability to be present in each moment and to be aware of and more comfortable with our thoughts, emotions, and physical being.

Although historically the techniques come from Buddhist traditions, this workshop has no religious content and will approach the practices from a down-to-earth, secular perspective. This introduction is intended mainly for persons with no previous meditation experience, but all are welcome.

Author M. Joanne Nesbit Discusses Her Book "Legendary Locals of Ann Arbor, Michigan"

Graced by the Huron River with an abundance of parks, Ann Arbor offers residents and visitors entertainment, sports, shopping, dining, and of course, the University of Michigan.

Legendary Locals of Ann Arbor, Michigan celebrates its citizens. Many are creative artists, inspiring educators, dedicated public servants, and determined business owners. With the exception of Lewis the cat, who reigned at Downtown Home and Garden, this book is filled with stories about people who have made and are making Ann Arbor one of the best places to live in the United States.

Join co-author Joanne Nesbit as she discusses some of the great stories they discovered while putting together the book and how local legends were selected. With a career spanning journalism and as a public information officer at Indiana University and the University of Michigan, Nesbit has always been fascinated by local history, stories, and people. She is the author of three other books, and is the founder of Knitwits at the University of Michigan.

The event includes a book signing and books will be on sale.

Self-Care Through Movement, Mindfulness, and Meditation: Switching Perspectives, From Outside to Inside

Brian Truskowski of BMT Wellness returns with a new spin on his self-care classes.

This class will offer an invitation to go deeper into yourself, maybe deeper than you’ve ever been. It will invite you to explore love and seasons, learning to practice pulling back to see yourself from the outside, while looking inward.

This self-empowerment class is for people who want to go deeper in their lives, connect with a part of themselves they may not know, and do it in a safe space. This monthly series will run through November. The classes will build upon each other, but each class stands on its own, so attendees may join any time.

Brian is a licensed Bodyworker and Massage Therapist in Ann Arbor and a member of the ManKind Project, whose mission is to raise the consciousness of the planet.
