Today was tree-planting day at Carpenter School, east of US-23 between Washtenaw and Packard Rds. Each child planted two red pine seedlings in a half-acre plot on the seven-acre school site as part of a conservation project. A total of about 200 trees was to be planted. Some of the seedlings may be used for school landscaping and others may be sold as Christmas trees. Here Judith Sellers (center), 8, first grade, gets some advice from Ernest A. Bottke, jr., manager of the Pinckney Recreation Area. Girl at left is unidentified.

State Road. Green, who performs several daring feats aloft and Barber, who has 28,000 hours of flight on his record, were two of dozens of airmen who appeared for the two-day marking of the establishment of the local airport in 1928. Aerial balloons, antique airplanes, a fly-in breakfast for arriving pilots and display of experimental aircraft were all part of the gala event. John, 5 1/2, and Michael, 7 1/2, point to the lid of the pressure cooker embedded in the kitchen ceiling. No one was hurt in the accident. The two boys and their two sisters were in an adjacent room, and Mrs. Gould was at a nearby kitchen counter at the time. The force smashed the burner of the stove.

Huron St. yesterday afternoon as firemen subdued a fire that damaged the interior of the front portion. Glass in the large front windows was a casualty. No definite damage estimate was available.
