Washtenaw county's bid for the title of "father of the year" in the national contest to be held in June is Clarkson Frederick Warden, 79, of Webster township, father of 25 children. He is pictured above (second from left, front row) with his family as he and his wife celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dexter. To the left in the front lineup is the oldest son, Archie, 57, of Pontiac. Mrs Marguerite Warden, 57, (second from right), Mr. Warden's third wife, is shown with the youngest child, 12-year-old Phyllis. Also in the picture are all but one of the 22 living Warden children, plus a large representation of the 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Seventeen of the children were born to his present wife.

And yesterday's party was the climax of days of waiting and preparing costumes for Arbor Way Nursery pupils at Calvary Presbyterian Church. The children were transformed into animals, gypsies, devils, ghosts and witches for the special Halloween games supervised by their teachers, Mrs. David Chai and Mrs. Martin Patchen. Mrs. Chris McKenney provided special holiday refreshments. These costumed figures are (left to right) Timmy Jameson, Davie Meader, Bridget Wood, Danny Lane and Lonie Georgopolous. RITES BRING CALL TO CHILDREN OF ISRAEL: In the traditional religious rites yesterday of Rosh-Ha-Shana, marking the first day of the Jewish New Year, Rabbi Isaak Goldman of the Beth Israel Congregation blows the ram's horn as a reminder to the Children of Israel that once they received the Ten Commandments upon Mount Sinai. The horn's call is to remind Jews of the World they should observe all of the laws of the Lord. Shawls and scarfs are worn in the orthodox services to bring uniformity to the worshipping costumes, and the hats and caps are in keeping with the covered head ordained in mourning for the destruction of the temple of Sinai.
