It's All In the Family There's no battle in at least one local family when the topic of combining police and fire departments is brought up. City Police Sgt. Herbert Kapp (right) the senior officer with the Ann Arbor Police Department, will soon complete his 38th year of city service. His son, Dean, has been an Ann Arbor fireman for the past five years and recently was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. The 43 years of combined service sets a record for one family in this area. And proposals to combine police and fire agencies don't worry either Sgt. Kapp or Lt. Kapp.

The building was purchased from the Episcopal Student Foundation, which operated Canterbury House. The hall was originally build by the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan on land purchased by St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor. Besides its use as an Episcopal student center, the United Service Organization was housed there from 1944-1946, and then the U-M leased the building for use by various musical groups. Previous Word of God headquarters was 122 1/2 E. Liberty, above the Pretzel Bell. Charismatic Renewal Services, a religious organization, made the actual purchase agreement for the hall, but details of the agreement were not available. (News photo by Robert Chase)

So he asked Dukes, who is a student at Pioneer High School, if her would help restore the wall near the stained glass in the chancel area where leakage has caused plaster to fall. Dukes, who is a member of Methodist Youth Fellowship, prepared stencils of symbols on the rest of the wall, sanded the area and now is handpainting the symbols onto the wall from the stencils.
