Capt. Francis DeWitt Barnard, left, and Capt. Warren G. Millard, whose Army Air forces careers have been surprisingly similar since they enlisted in the fall of 1940, are home on leave after a winter spent in Alaska as members of "Alaska's Flying Tigers" squadron. Note the squadron emblem on Capt. Millard's jacket. Both men have been over Jap-held Kiska several times during the winter and Millard got four Zeros on one trip. Capt. Barnard is home for the first time since Christmas while his fellow pilot is enjoying his first long leave since he was here last Thanksgiving time.

She is so interested in stressing the importance of good food that she has begun classes in gourmet cuisine. Although too young for the regular classes, 12-year-old Claudine Van Curler is determined to become an excellent cook, and her after-school hours are often spent helping her neighbor prepare specialties. Here Claudine garnishes a spinach dish, Southern French style, while Mrs. Agranoff takes freshly-baked French bread from the oven. Claudine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Van Curler of Pauline Blvd. Mrs. Agranoff believes good cooking needn't be complicated.
