Sink are getting prepared to greet "the girls" tomorrow evening at the membership meeting of the Alva Gordon Sink Alumnae Group of the University Alumnae Association. Mr. Sink sports his bright red Hoppi coat, a decorative Japanese number worn in festivals. Volunteering to be Mrs. Sink's "butler" at the membership meeting several years ago, he wore the jacket to amuse her guests, and his appearance at the door has become somewhat of a tradition.

Bivouac Expands - The Bivouac, a clothing and camping equipment store at 330 S. State St., is expanding next door into the space formerly occupied by Saks Fifth Avenue. Ed Davidson, Bivouac owner, standing in front of his expanded store, said the new space should be open this week. The additional 2,500 square feet, which doubles the store's current size, will be used for women's clothing, Davidson said. "We've always carried fashionable women's clothing, but most people didn't know that," he said. "We're trying to fill the void Saks created when it left Ann Arbor. Saying the store was too small to be operated economically, Saks closed the State Street operation in February. It was the company's last college-town store in the country. Davidson said he will hire more employees to staff the larger Bivouac store. Bivouac, which opened in 1971 as an Army surplus store, has grown from a 300-square foot store to a 5,000-square foot facility. "We have changed as the times have changed," Davidson said.

LARGEST IN CITY: These 143-foot-long prefabricated wood beams in place at the new Colonial Lanes bowling alley of 1950 Industrial Hwy. are believed to be the largest clear spans to be erected in the city. Each beam weighs 4 1/2 tons and is made up of at least 58 pieces of wood laminated together. Two railroad flat cars were required to transport the beams from a factory in Peshtigo, Wis., with the rearmost car protecting the beams' overhang. Each beam is 28 feet high at the center. Colonial Lanes is being built by the Pinnacle Corp., which is headed by Donald Laubengayer of Ann Arbor, and is to be operated by that group when the bowling alley opens about Sept. 1. The alley will contain 28 lanes, a nursery room, a bar-lunch room, and will be air conditioned.

TRAFFIC BACKUPS MOUNT ON MAIN: A massive traffic jam late Friday afternoon on Ann Arbor's Main Street resulted from faulty traffic light sequencing stemming from the city's conversion to a computerized sequencing system. According to the city's Traffic Engineering Department, work on the new system is continuing and "unavailable" delays may occur until the conversion is complete. The project is not expected to be completed for several months. Ann Arbor Police said Friday's traffic jam, viewed here from the corner of Liberty and Main, created hazards for motorists and informed theTraffic Department of the situation. The traffic Department said the area will be kept under observation in the future and steps will be taken if major difficulties occur.
