ALL EYES ON MINIATURE TRAIN: A miniature village, complete with electric train, hospital, houses, an elevator, trucks, ambulance, cars and planes, focuses the attention of the above third grade pupils from University Elementary School who were guests of Bobbie Tompkins at a Christmas party this week. The recreation room in the home of Bobbie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Tompkins, 1795 S. State St., was turned over to the youngsters who found an almost limitless number of toys to play with. From left to right above are Phillip Tanner, Bobbie's cousin; Joanne Ivory, Jane Litzenberg, Bobbie Tompkins, Ann Coleman, Jackie Peterson, Sue Greenman, Jon Lopez, Cubbie Eggertsen, Wayne Van Wagoner, Mary Craig (just the ruffle on Mary's dress, her hand, and the tip of her nose show), and Penny Foster. The girl with her back to the camera is Starlett Tanner, another cousin of Bobbie. At the far right, the hand and the forehead which it is rubbing belong to Jimmy Stockard, and it's Allison Dempster who is peering over the shoulders of Mary and Penny. Each child was presented with a gift at the party from a large Christmas tree. The party is an annual affair and was given this year for the third time.

VISITORS FROM THE SKIES: Some of the 250 airplanes that winged into the City Airport for yesterday's Dawn Patrol program are shown parked in neat rows on the fringes of the field. Despite all the coming and going during the day - a record for the airport from the traffic standpoint - there were no accidents of any kind. The vanguard of the private plane fleet arrived at 6:30 in the morning, and the volume swelled during the morning until it tapered off about noon. The visiting fliers were treated to an all-day program featured by the selection of Ann Maurer of Traverse City, a University coed, as "Miss Michigan Dawn Patrol." Other events included stunt flying, a parachute jump, prize drawings, and a toy balloon ascension contest. Results of the latter will not be known until tags attached to the balloons are returned to the contest officials by mail. The balloon found farthest from the airport will be declared the winner. The Dawn Patrol program was held under perfect weather conditions for flying.

The signal is located at the intersection of Wildt and Summit and is part of a signal-revamping program for the entire intersection, which also includes Hiscock. The system is expected to go into operation Thursday. This particular signal will flash signs to motorists, when a train is passing the intersection, that no right turns or no left turns will be allowed at that time. CLEAN AND NEAT: This Liberty-to-Washington alley between S. Fourth and S. Fifth Aves. has attracted comment as one of the cleanest ones downtown. A few empty boxes and a sumac tree that forced its way through the pavement are the only evidence of "disorder." Although drab, the alley is in contrast to some trash-ridden ones that are breeding grounds for rodents and pointed to as unhealthful by the city as well as in violation of an anti-litter ordinance. Violators of the ordinance are subject to citation and a municipal court hearing. That warning was issued by the Police Department during Cleanup, Paintup, Fixup Month in June, when the city made pleas to businessmen, industry and residents to beautify their properties year-around. The warning has been heeded by many around the city.
