Tapered shapes of the unusual concrete blocks that are being used in construction of this house at 2011 Washtenaw Ave. provide an exterior that looks like frame siding. The blocks are wider at the bottom than at the top and this difference in size creates the appearance of conventional siding when the blocks are placed atop each other. Cylindrical air spaces in the blocks provide an insulation space that supplements the insulation within the interior walls. The wooden pegs shown between the uppermost blocks are used to separate blocks until mortar has been injected between them with a special type of propellant.
