KIWANIANS PRESENT AUDIOMETER TO RACKHAM SCHOOL: A new audiometer was given to the Rackham School of Special Education in Ypsilanti yesterday by the Ypsilanti Kiwanis Club. The equipment, which replaces an obsolete model, will be used to checkhearing of Rackham pupils and to aid hard-of-hearing children in other Ypsilanti schools. Future teacers enrolled at Michigan State Normal College will also be trained in useof the audiometer. Here, Marilyn Weeks, instructor in the Rackham primary deaf department, demonstrates the audiometer with four-year-old Linda Bruce. Proceeds from the sale will go into the Kiwanis fund for work with underprivileged children. Evertt C. (Eddie) Edwards is chairman of the sale, which will be open until 8 p.m. today, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow and from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Last year's sale netted the Kiwanians some $1,800.

Michigan Ave. and Congress St. behind an historical stone marker. When complete, the sign will record traffic accidents and fatalities during the year, and have an arrow pointing to the new Ypsilanti Police Department directly across W. Michigan.

Eve Schmale saw no reason why an accident that blinded her 10 years ago should mean turning away from years of volunteer service. When one agency couldn't find enough for her to do, she got in touch with Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and ended up as coordinator of volunteers at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District. She marvels at the "inspired" WISD program, which, she says, enables mentally retarded people to "live like human beings instead of in institutions."

The mural, which eventually will depict two city scapes – a polluted city and a clean city – is expected to be completed by the end of this week depending on the weather. The creativity is being donated by Lockard and his art class at Washtenaw Community College. Materials for the mural are being donated by WCC. Boy Scouts have planted over 700 tullip and daffodil bulbs in the park.

Kung starts with a large clump of dough and separates it by hand into many strands of noodles. He put on a demonstration for the public Tuesday. Kung will also be part of a Chinese Food Fair from noon-4 p.m. on Sunday at Dominos Farms, Lobby G. Sixteen area restaurants will participate.
