Congressman Gorman will undoubtedly receive the renomination he richly deserves. He has looked after the interests of this district in a careful and painstaking manner. Every county in the district will probably turn in a loyal support at the convention, and Gorman will go back to Congress from this district. The Morse boom is still growing. Thousands of republicans will vote forhim. His pre-eminent qualifications for the place stand him in good stead. His grit and patriotism was shown during the war, his sym- pathy with the people as against the big Corporation in hissupreme court decisions, his honesty a-nd integrity is attested by thousands of political opponents who know him well. Blaine has written a letter in which he says he will make no speeches during this campaign. The letter is addressed to the chairman of the Republican state comraittee in Maine and wasevidently intended for publication. It is devoted to the tariff, reciprocity and the currency question. The remarkable thing about it is that Harrison and the Republican administration is not named in the letter. Even Blaine, as strong a Republican partisan as he is, did not come to the support of the office-holders and the office-holders' candidate. The Republican candidate for congress in tliis district is the 'same Coiigressman O.'Dounell who secured the passage;, of the bill giving the sugár planters of Louisiana abounty upon the silgar they raise. This boujity is paid out of the general treasiuy from funds raised by taxing the farmers, artisans and others of the country. Many farmers raise wheat at a loss, but Congressman O'Donnell does not desire to give them a bounty. He might run well in Louisiana, but how will he run here when the farmers are taxed to put money in the pockets of Louisiana?s big planters.
