The colloge students succeeded in having their usual time lastiiightin honor of All Hallowe'en. The boys begau to get boisterous about ten o'clock, w hen they built a fire on the campus of boxes and leaves. Their number of 250 grew to 700 by an honv, and they began to tear up walks and fences on East University avenue. They also endeavored to secure some boxes from in rear of Schleede's book store, when Marshal Peterson and bis deputies arrested a student. He was left in charge of a policeman while the others weut for reinforeements. The students oharged and seoured the oner. On the return of the marshal there was anothev charge by him and his deputies aud this time a '98 law fel] into their clutohes. He was hamlcuffed aud taken to jail, wifh a mob of students at the offieers' heeis, Peterson walkiug backwarrts and keeping Viis gun well in view. This oocurred abnnt 12:30 o'clwk. It was claimed that the stadent arrested was severely handled by the pólice, bnt at thp jail this ïnoruing he had no injuries except that his wrists were swollen from beius handonffed. Tbe arrested man claims that he had jnst oome outo the oampne, bnt ran with the orowd when they wei e oharged upon. He rnshod aronnd a corner of the "gym'' and into the arms of a "oop. " Edward Ottley, a town boy, had a bad cut over the eye, being Btruck vbont 10:80 o'clook by a picket in the bands of a student, who, iu his excitement,mistook him for one of the pólice. At the post office there was a rush last nigbt and the windows were all closed aud most of the stndeuts had to disperse without their mail.
