Description

Join us for this fascinating evening as U-M Professor Ben van der Pluijm discusses how humans are pushing earth into a new geological era, and what we will have to do to adapt.

In his presentation, Ben will talk about today's era that is dominated by human activity, informally called the Anthropocene. Human population trends guide our growing demands on ecosystem and geosystem resources, including food, water and energy. The impacts of a growing, affluent population and its resource needs are explored, as well as solutions for a thriving human society in this new era.

Ben van der Pluijm is the BR Clark Collegiate Professor in the Dept of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Earth's Future" that examines the state of our planet, sustainable and resilient human societies, and predictions of our common future.
