A propoSfií to develop open land along Jackson Ave., adjacent to the Maple Village Shopping Center, was rejected by the City Planning Commission last night. Also last night, the commission overturned a staff recommendation and approved a service station on Washtenaw Ave., and set a schedule for a review of the proposed master plan. Owners of the Maple Village" Shopping Center had been seeking approval of a site plan to construct a restaurant and other buildings in the open space between the center and Jackson. After denying this request, the commission adopted the Planning Department staff recommendation that this área be left as open space and that additional stores be located in the existing parking area along Jackson. The commission is requesting a scenic easement for the existing open space, removal of all curb cuts and drives from Jackson, removal of all signs in this open space area, and "total repair of the current mess called a parking lot." The Planning staff had recommended denial of a site plan for a service station- to be constructed by Fisca Oil Co.- at Washtenaw Ave. and Platt Rd. The staff had recommended that the zoning for the 1.19 acre parcel be changed from the existing C3 commercial- which permits service stations- to O office. Commission members decided against this and approved the site plan. The review sessions of the "Guide for Change" will start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, in City Hall. A second session will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 19 at the new Municipal Airport administration building, and subsequent meetings will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 26, 9:30 a.m. June 5 and 9:30 a.ín. June 12.
