The Ann Arbor Planning Comrïrfssion Tuesday night gave a go-ahead for its staff to work with Washtenaw County towards a mutual solution to space shortage problems facing both governmental units. The Planning Department's efforts wil] specifically examine the possibilities of joint city-counly facilities. The study will include an investigation and recommendations to City Council on the potential for combining city and county functions, possible locations for all major facilities, preliminary cost estimates and methods of funding. Ann Arbor's current Capital Improvements Budget and Program gives priority ratings for four new facilities - a new public safety building to house pólice ánd courts; a new municipal garage; a new Washington Street carport; and a new fire station in the south part of town. At the same time the county has listed among its most urgent needs a new cor-i rectional facility to replace the County I Jail, new office and court spaces, a park-l ing structure for county workers and al human resources center. The county is also considering al proposal from Ypsilanti Township Cmsr.l James Cregar for construction of a newl county building with the present building I possibly being used as city-county 1 ty.
