An assistant manager for a local restaurant today denied a contention by Police Chief Walter E. Krasny that the business place is a "major narcotics outlet." The chief gave this label yesterday to the Whistle Stop Restaurant at 611 S. Forest where city and state narcotics detectives staged a raid two days ago. Jeri L. Hess, 17, of 1112 Hasper and Eugene A. Waxman, 25, of 709 Dewey are being held on charges of selling marijuana as a result of the raid. Other persons taken into custody at the time of the two arrests were released after questioning, but Chief Krasny says they may face charges of possession of marijuana. The assistant manager, who asked that his name not be used, said there were no narcotics in the Whistle Stop when the raid was staged. He said a man with long blond hair entered the restaurant, handed money to a restaurant employee and then pulled out a gun and said "You're under arrest." The man "apparently was a narcotics detective," the assistant manager said. "People come into the restaurant who have been known to use narcotics but there hasn't been any in here for several weeks," the assistant manager said. "We're going to try and keep it that way. We don't want to get busted." He said Miss Hess was arrested at her home by detectives on Monday. He said the officers found some "sterns" of marijuana cigarettes in her apartment and took them "without a search warrant." Several youths who say they were included in the group who was taken from the restaurant and later released by police also dispute Chief Krasny's figure of a total of nine persons arrested at the time. They claim seven were taken into custody, including Miss Hess and Waxman. They say Miss Hess and Waxman were booked on the marijuana charge and a third youth was held for violation of probation. They say the remaining four persons were released.
