The Ann Arbor Garden Club will observe the 41st anniversary of its founding this weekend, while the Federated Garden Clubs of Michigan will observe its 40th anniversary. The Ann Arbor Garden Club was the first garden club to be formed in the state. A full program of activities is planned for all three days. The convention is open to the public. The aim of the club is "to make Ann Arbor beautiful."

Berry, 2200 Belmont, among three homes, a sorority house and University Co-op house included on the Ann Arbor Garden Club's Christmas Walk on Wednesday, December 11, 1963. Mrs. Edward F. Zimmer (left) and Mrs. William Dorrance (right) placed Santa between two traditional wreaths at the Dr. Berry home. The walk was held from 1 to 5 p.m. with tea at the Women's City Club served from 2 to 4 p.m. Also listed on the walk were the homes of Dr. and Mrs. Leonard E. Himler, 1225 Fair Oaks; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Moore Berry, 375 Barton North; Henderson House, 1330 Hill, and Phi Mu sorority, 1541 Washtenaw.

COUNTY FAIR: Mrs. Lee Dare Young of the Ann Arbor Garden Club was the tri-color winner of the club's annual flower show, "County Fair," held yesterday at the Ann Arbor Community Center. Her exhibit, entitled "Space Modulator," was entered in the artistic design division. Area residents numbering 456 were entered in the three main divisions of the show. Fifteen accredited judges from all over the state presented the awards. Special awards went to Mrs. C. Merle Dixon for her "Pink Fairy Rose Bouquet" and to Charles W. Phillips for his educational exhibit of poisonous plants. A total of 87 awards were given in the Horticulture section, 100 for Artistic Design, eight for house plants, and 10 for vegetables.

TABLE CENTERPIECE: Mrs. James Hayward, president of the Garden Club of Ann Arbor, works on one of the many centerpieces to be used at the conference. The dried arrangement is made with an interior of sphagnum moss which is soaked in water, formed into a ball and then covered with chicken wire. The "branches" are made with wild weeds. A small branch is covered with florists' tape to form the "stump" and placed in the pot of dirt. At left is a finished centerpiece.
