LAW OFFICERS AT HOME ON RANGE: Members of the Ann Arbor police department and the Washtenaw sheriff's office practice with tommy-guns at the police department firing range, located off Huron River Dr. about three miles west of Ann Arbor. A total of 55 law enforcement officers took part in firing instruction with pistols and riot guns as well as the Thompson sub-machine gun. The firing practice concludes an FBI school for law officers that has been in intermittent session since Feb. 4.

He also discusses his role in Ann Arbor’s legendary Blues and Jazz Festivals, producing the John Sinclair Freedom Rally at Crisler Arena in 1971, and bringing John Lennon and Yoko Ono to town.

Author and former Ann Arbor policeman Peter Stipe recounts his journey from being a wayward youth growing up in countercultural Ann Arbor to becoming the most decorated member of the Ann Arbor Police Department. Peter shares memories of his time with the AAPD, including harrowing encounters on emergency calls and the many people and events that helped shape his career. Peter also shares his love of local history and discusses the changes he's seen in the city over the years.

AATA Buses - The public had a chance to examine 14 new AATA buses Wednesday following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at City Hall. Though the response to the sleek new coaches was enthusiastic, the traffic on Huron Street got a bit tangled during the event, causing Lt. Marvin Konkle (this photo) to ask AATA executive director Richard Simonetta to move the buses.
