About 200 guests sampled a cake that resembled the Museum's historic building at the corner of Huron and Fifth Avenues, and grownups and children alike tried out some of the new exhibits at the museum. Besides the Bernoulli ball, which is held in position by a stream of air from the cone, those include an archaeology display of items found during the renovation of the old city fire station, a levitator and a light table.

Showing her the cake is George Cowe, the master pastry chef at Dough Boy Pastries which donated the cake during the first birthday celebration of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum Sunday. More than 20,000 spectators showed up during the two-day celebration which included dozens of airmen, aerial balloons, antique planes, a "fly-in" and display of experimental aircraft.

Eddie Green, shown here balancing atop a wing of a stunt plane piloted by veteran acrobatic flyer Bill Barber, thrilled a large crowd which gathered Sunday at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Ann Arbor Municipal Airport off S. State Road. Green, who performs several daring feats aloft and Barber, who has 28,000 hours of flight on his record, were two of dozens of airmen who appeared for the two-day marking of the establishment of the local airport in 1928. Aerial balloons, antique airplanes, a fly-in breakfast for arriving pilots and display of experimental aircraft were all part of the gala event. Art Nugent, control tower operator, said there were 575 landings and take-offs on Sunday and more than 20,000 persons visited the airport for the air show. (Staff photo by Robert Chase)
