This simple, two-room bath house (top) in the rear of the Uolevi Lahti home at 909 Sunset Rd. is, in principle, a faithful reproduction of the well-known "sauna" of Finland. Beyond the dressing area is the steam room (bottom - this photo) in which bathers bask in 160-degree steam blasts which come from the water dashed upon heated rocks in the barrel-stove (right), the lid of which is closed when fire is lighted. The hot water barrel is next to the stove. Below the window can be seen the cedar branch "switches" used by hardier devotees to drive the steam into their pores as they sit on the wide bench four or more feet off the floor.
