HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Twelve-year-old Lena Lou Sturgill, a Girl Scout of Troop Seven at the Rackham School of Special Education in Ypsilanti, receives a piece of the Girl Scout national birthday cake from United Air Lines stewardess, Florence McCabe. The piece of cake, flown from Los Angeles yesterday, was presented to the troop in honor of its help during the past year to hunger-stricken children of Europe. Lena, who suffered an attack of infantile paralysis several years ago and her fellow troop members, all physically handicapped, were taken on a tour of the Mainliner by Capt. W. L. Fagen, nearest the door, and First Officer Price Downey.

Their Object: Help For The County's Retarded. Some 50 concerned citizens and parents of retarded adults jammed the meeting room last night of the Washtenaw Community Mental Health Board. They listened while spokesmen asked the board for funds to avert the closing this week of the county's only program for retarded adults. The spokesmen included Dean Douthat (standing), president of the Washtenaw Association for Retarded Children; WARC executive director Norman Quackenboss (center) and Charles H. Ramsey (hand on chin), representative of the State Mental Health Department.
