Bridge Work: The $530,000 Carpenter Road bridge project over I-94 in Pittsfield Township is nearing completion. The northern ramp to the bridge (left) is almost completed while the southern ramp (right) remains to be done. Traffic is heavy on the westbound lanes of I-94 as motorists weave through a maze of warning barrels around the construction project. The Carpenter Road bridge, closed for replacement in September 1975 is scheduled to reopen Nov. 1, according to project engineer John Aerts.

Overturned Rig Blocks I-94. Eastbound traffic on I-94 at Fletcher Rd., just east of Chelsea in Lima Township, was impeded early this morning when a tractor-trailer truck loaded with canned goods went into a spin and overturned across most of the roadway. Sheriff's deputies said the driver escaped injury. Before the overturned truck could be moved, it had to be unloaded. Eastbound traffic was directed around it.
