YOUNG AT 80: The years have passed so quickly in his busy life that Dean-emeritus A. S. Whitney of the University school of education, had to remind himself he was 80 years old yesterday. "I've been so busy it doesn't seem like 80 years," he commented. A dinner at the Michigan League honored him.

CENTURIAN PLUS TWO: John J. Empie of 615 Church St. today was observing his 102nd birthday with a cake and refreshments for relatives and friends who were calling at the Empie home. Empie, who says he has voted in every presidential election since he was 21, was born Dec 7., 1853, in New York City. Last January he observed his 71st wedding anniversary. Mrs. Empie is 88.
