NERO FIDDLES: Floats in yesterday's parade kicking off Michigras, the U-M student carnival given every two years, had musical themes. This one, based on Roman Emperor Nero and his fiddle, drew a lot of attention.

Permanent Peace Table: This 'Peace' float took first place in the University's Homecoming parade. It was entered by Chi Alpha Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. A total of 22 floats were entered int he parade by fraternity-sorority groups and residence halls on campus. Thousands of area residents watched the parade.

OFF TO THE RACES: There wasn't a horse race, but a chariot race on the Diagonal of the U-M campus Saturday. Here a group of coeds prepare to cheer on Delta Upsilon fraternity's Brandy II at the start of the race. Brandy ran a "dogged" race but lost to Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity's mascot, Major, by about 10 lengths.
