EXPERIENCED DRIVERS CHECK BUS: These three Lincoln School District bus drivers have a combined total of 79 years of experience operating Lincoln buses. They are checking the wide windshield of the newest bus with Lee Jones (right), mechanic and bus supervisor for the district. The drivers are (left to right) Woodrow Jones, Lee's brother, with 22 years; Mrs. Flora Bunton, the "dean" of the corps with 33 years; and Mrs. Lottie Towler with 24 years. Women outnumber men drivers by a 4 to 1 margin. Lincoln has a fleet of 21 buses. Below, Mrs. Bunton is pictured beside her bus in 1925. She first began driving buses a year earlier.

WAITING'S COZY: These school children are reasonably comfortable while waiting for the school bus these cold mornings, thanks to Paul Augustine of 250 Waters Rd., Pittsfield township. He built the playhouse-sized shelter on his property at the corner of S. Main Rd. so that the neighborhood's students may be out of the elements.

SCHOOL ABSENTEE PROBLEM SOLVED: When Hamburg High school students, who attend classes at Ann Arbor High school, found wartime travel restrictions making it nearly impossible to attend school, many of them dropped out and forgot about further education. Then R. C. Brown and some of his cohorts at the Brown-McLaren Manufacturing Co. in Hamburg stepped into the picture and solved the school transportation problem by purchasing a $3,300 school bus that makes the Hamburg-Ann Arbor trip daily carrying 12 Hamburg students and an extra 10 picked up at Whitmore Lake. The new bus started its runs this week but it isn't the first effect of Mr. Brown's benevolence to be felt at the Hamburg school. He also purchased a $1,000 fire escape for the school building and has made other improvements possible. Shown in the picture foreground, left to right, are Mr. Brown, the company president; Harry Andrews, treasurer; Ora Moehl, auditor, and Charles Heath.

NO ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED: Sixty students of Hamburg Elementary School escaped without serious injury when this 67-year-old bridge collapsed under their school bus at about 8 a.m. today. The bridge spanned the Huron River about one mile north of Hamburg on Hamburg Rd.
