ONLY PART OF THE FUN: Swimming was only part of the fun as 450 high school age boys and girls from all parts of the city met at the YMCA last night for their first recreational get-together. They planned and managed the party themselves and the dancing, swimming and games were all carried out with the same casual good taste that marks their habitual sweaters and skirts, their sport coats and slacks. It's Harlan Roos who is trying to pull Bess Tamura into the pool, as William Smith, physical director of the YMCA (standing in rear left) keeps his eyes on the group.

AT YOUTH PART IN YMCA: Dancing was popular at the all city get-together for high school age boys and girls at the YMCA last night. Records provided the music. The youngsters provided the fun. Often they formed small groups around dancers they considered worth watching. Usually, as pictured, a large group took over the floor, dancing to music that was sometimes sweet, but more often was in the groove.

The class divided into groups, with each group preparing and serving a complete meal. Miss Elvira Carstensen says it's hard to convince some of the fellows that they'll ever need to carve a roast but she insists they learn. Gerald Craig carves ham (above) as Jerry Mummery (left) and Dale Alexander (right) wait patiently.
