OSCODA'S RECREATIONAL PIER: In addition to its sand beach Oscoda has a municipal recreation pier that is popular with divers, amateur fishermen, and resorters who just like to sit in the sun. Here are two girls caught in full flight as they dove from the top rail in the center of the picture. Photo by E. N. Stanger, Booth Newspapers Photographer.

HIDDEN DOCKS AT CALCITE - Here is one of Henry Ford's freighters, Edgewater, being loaded with crushed limestone - used in steel manufacture - at a dock hidden from public view by great mills, giant conveyors, and huge piles of material. This particular boat leaves no smoke trail behind it, as it is a Diesel motor ship. The docks at Calcite are busy during navigation season, a special parade of boats plying between here and various steel mill ports.

ON THUNDER BAY: Alpena has a unique beach at Mich-e-ke-wis Park. Low waters in the Great Lakes have left broad flats exposed, with sands so hard that automobiles can drive to the edge of the waves, or even into them. Bathers use a moveable dock to get into the clear waters back from the immediate shore. A kiddy slide and diving dock are anchored far out in the shoal waters. In the distance is Grass Island.
