CHESS REVERTS TO DARK AGES: When a power cable was severed back of the Michigan Union yesterday during construction work it didn't daunt faculty members at the University Club in the Union. Prof. Arthur E. Wood of the sociology department and Prof. Ben Dushnik of the mathematics department played chess by candlelight as it probably was done many years ago. Later an extension cord was rigged up to bring some light from the main wing of the Union.

BRIDGE PLAYERS FACE NEW HANDICAP: Failure of the electricity in the new wing of the Michigan Union last night left these bridge players with no alternative but to use candles or not play at all. They used candles. Starting at the left and reading in the order of the deal are Prof. Everett S. Brown, political science; Professor-emeritus William H. Butts, mathematics; Prof. Henry A. Sanders, linguistics, and Dr. Marcus L. Ward, dentistry.

Presbyterian Handbell Choir The Handbell Choir from the First Presbyterian Church will perform at Wednesday's annual coffee hour for members of the University Club, their wives and members of the Faculty Women's Club at the University Club Lounge. The choir robbed in red, plays 25 copper bells which were cast at the Whitechapel Foundry of London.
