Where Theme Park Would Go: This aerial view of Whittaker Road, center of picture, and I-94, upper right, shows the farmland site for the proposed $40-million "Space World" amusement park in Ypsilanti Township. The first phase of the park, which could be completed in 1980, will be located on the west side of Whittaker Road, shown in the upper center of the picture where the barn and silo are now visible. Later phases, to be finished over a 10-year period could be built on the land shown in the lower portion of the picture. The photograph, taken by News Chief Photographer Cecil Lockard, is facing west across Whittaker Road.

Bridge Work: The $530,000 Carpenter Road bridge project over I-94 in Pittsfield Township is nearing completion. The northern ramp to the bridge (left) is almost completed while the southern ramp (right) remains to be done. Traffic is heavy on the westbound lanes of I-94 as motorists weave through a maze of warning barrels around the construction project. The Carpenter Road bridge, closed for replacement in September 1975 is scheduled to reopen Nov. 1, according to project engineer John Aerts.

The tattered eight-year-old welcome sign located off the I-94 expressway may be making its exit soon. Ypsilanti Area Jaycees can no longer maintain it because a new state law stipulates that a sign of its size must be maintained by a municipality. So, Jaycees offered to donate it to Ypsilanti City and Township, but officials from both municipalities indicate they're not interested. The sign now faces condemnation by the state.
