A gerbil (left) [this photo[makes a good pet because it's small and, unlike most members of the rodent family, stays awake during the day. Its owners, Christian, 7, and Douglas, 6, are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hesseltine of Starwick Drive. The baby chicks (picture at right) of David Ference, abandoned after hatching, are convinced that he is their mother. David is the son of Mrs. Cecelia Ference of Salie. Mrs. Ference and her son have made their country home a recreation center with different kinds of animals and a Tom Sawyer atmosphere.
