Cement Bucket Falls, Boom Collapses: This was the scene yesterday afternoon on S. Fourth Ave. near E. William St., the site of a carport project, after a crane bucket loaded with a half-yard of wet cement broke loose and struck a worker, William Graham, 27, of Detroit. Kenneth Gass, 42, of Taylor, foreman on the job, saw the bucket speeding toward a half-dozen workers on the top level of the port and shouted a warning while the crane operator, Edward Thompson, 37, of Pontiac, swung the bucket away from the workers. The boom came to rest on a construction trailer. All escaped except Graham, who is reported in "satisfactory" condition at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital today. The brakes controlling the bucket failed.
