Morris Dancers Entertain - Crowds at the Farmers' Market and the University of Michigan Diagonal were treated to a lively dance spectacle over the weekend by the Ann Arbor Morris and Sword team and the Green Fiddle Morris team of Toronto. The groups also performed in Hell, Stockbridge and several city parks. The Morris dance is a rigorous one from the Cotswald region of England. It is believed to date back over 1,000 years and was created by farmers to insure good weather and bumper crops. The dance almost died out at the turn of the century, but it has been revived, and there are now over 400 dance teams in England and 32 in North America. (Staff photo by Jack Stubb)
