S. Main Paint Project: Painter Norman Cornett of 7562 Jackson, Scio Township, applies beige paint to the exterior of Walkover Shoes of 115 S. Main, one of about 45 business places in the 100 through 300 blocks of S. Main to be painted three predetermined color schemes. The paintup project is part of a planned revitalization in the downtown area and is to be completed prior to the start of Summer Bargain Days July 29 through Aug. 1. Business places adjacent to Walkover Shoes also being painted beige are the Sugar Bowl and Ann Arbor Clothing.

Main St. between William and Liberty Sts. can be seen in this picture taken prior to the start of Bargain Days today, a two-day annual merchandise sales event. Thirteen carnival-type rides along S. Main and N. University Ave., which have been closed to traffic along with S. State St., are attractions at this year's Bargain Days.
